Bruce Springsteen was amazed to win a Grammy award - because he didn't know he had been nominated.

The 'Born To Run' singer claims he only found out his 'Girls In Their Summer Clothes' had been honoured in the Best Rock Song category when he was catching up on current affairs the day after the ceremony.

He told MTV News: "I didn't even know I was up for a Grammy. I opened the newspaper on Monday and saw that I had won, and thought, 'Well, that's great!' "

The honour was Bruce's 19th Grammy award.

Bruce - nicknamed The Boss - recently gave the coveted half time performance at the Super Bowl and despite regularly performing three-hour concerts, was amazed at how gruelling his brief set was.

He added: "It was like being shot out of a cannon. I didn't know 12 minutes could take that much out of you! I'm still recovering from the intensity."
